Because the term home schooling does not exist in California legislation, it has both positive and negative connotations. In some settings home schooling is considered illegal based on the definition.
To help bridge the gap of misunderstanding, many home school programs are beginning to use the term independent study program (ISP). This term is more widely understood by public school officials and others in the educational field.
Independent study denotes assessing a student's learning process, determining their level of academic functioning, tailoring curriculum and the study process to best fit their needs, and providing a means for evaluation.
Most home schoolers would agree they are meeting this definition of independent study. home schooling is work! And it can be the " salvation" of your child's character and education!
