There are currently four legal options for how to home school in California:

• · Obtain a California teaching credential for the grade you are teaching or hire a credentialed teacher to teach your children.
• · Enroll your children in a public school independent study program.
• · Enroll your children in a private school independent study program.
  · File a Private school affidavite with the State of California.

Private school independent study programs should require accountability of its families, supervise the educational process, and provide for student assessment and evaluation.

Home schooling can be a wonderful student and family experience without fear concerning the law. With the necessary support, assistance and services needed to successfully home school, families can greatly influence their child's character and education!
